Starting Out and Why it´s so Important to be Clear on Your Vision!

If we want to stay inspired and focused to pursue our dreams, we need specific goals!

Putting a plan together is one of the most important steps to getting where you want to be and it starts with a vision.

Be specific about what you want to achieve, if your starting point is vague this will only make your ending point vague too!

You need be so clear on what you want, your vision, that you can see it when you close your eyes! If you are not clear on what you want, how will you know when you get it? Or how will you know if you don´t get it? If you go to a travel agency for example and you ask for a ticket to anywhere in Africa, your final destination is Africa but you are not sure where (not clear on your vision but a vague idea). The agent organizes the trip and you end up in Morocco. Maybe you are happy to have a holiday in Morocco but you were actually hoping for a safari in Kenya, so it is not what you wanted, why?  Because you weren´t specific. 

If we are not specific about where we want to go in life, we may end up one day where we don´t want to be.

importance of being clear with your vision

It is great to say ¨I want to be a millionaire by the age of 30¨ – ok , great…my next question is how? By selling a product, a service? How do you plan to do that?  Get really clear on the final goal. Make sure it is aligned with your values and it lights you up when you think about achieving it.

So my questions to you are: what is your vision? Where do you want to be in 3-5 years from now? How will you know once you have gotten there? What will it look like? How will you feel? What can you see around you?  Getting clear on your vision is like the foundation – it’s the first step.  You can start by taking a pen and paper and writing down whatever comes to mind – and just start somewhere.

Once you are really clear about what you want, set goals for yourself to achieve it. An easy guideline to set your goals is using the SMART guideline.

S – Specific – This is the who, what, when, why, which and where
M – Measurable – How will I know when it is accomplished? how much, how many?
A – Achievable – Is it attainable? If not, break larger goals into smaller goals
R – Realistic – Within the availability of your resources, knowledge and time
T – Time bound – Deadlines

If you keep setting goals and work towards achieving them, you will achieve more in a few months than many people do in years.

Lastly, for your business goals, you also have to be really clear on who your target market is, what is their problem and what is your solution for them? Can they afford your fees? and can you easily reach/find them?

First get clear on where you are going and who you are serving!

Remember it’s about the journey – not only the destination! Live in the present and enjoy the journey!
